My name is Michael Gotwald, and creating painting for friends of their homes has always been enjoyable for me throughout my career as an architect.

I grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and shortly after college moved to Washington DC. I have loved living in the capital, with its museums, culture, and opportunities. I have worked in architectural and design firms of all sizes, and had my own practice for a number of years. I even moved to Santa Fe, NM, which I loved. However, the business climate wasn't as good as the weather climate, so I came back home to Washington.

I currently divide my time between Washington DC and the village of Berkeley Springs, WV. I keep my studio in the “country house” where I can paint at my leisure. In addition to painting, I am an avid cook and gardener, and I love to listen to the opera while painting.

I take great care and pleasure in creating beautiful paintings for friends, neighbors and my clients. I hope you like my work and will consider calling on me to make a very personal souvenir or gift for you.
